Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
