Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

An individual who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were between nine and ten.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said items including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.

She stated the defendant went on to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the police again.

She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
