Sam Fender has handed over the complete sum of his £25k award winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

He was given the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it wasn't for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds assisted spaces that were facing possible closure due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in modernizing amenities and gear that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in major spaces backs the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to give his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when the band received the trophy in the mid-90s for their release the album, vocalist the singer declared that the group would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician the artist divided her bounty between multiple good causes, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," she explained to a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the community center that developed their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the disease.

"The victory was ample," said vocalist Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust announced it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the second in that location were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the properties.
